Phillips Project
August 7-9 in Milwaukie
Mr. Phillips is an 84 year-old man who has lived in his 1968 Milwaukie single-family home for 40-years. He lives with his 53 year-old daughter who has downs syndrome, and they live on a low, fixed income. He reached out to us in December 2018 for help with his leaky roof, and it was in desperate need of replacement. We tarped it in hopes of returning to replace it, but our 2019 roof projects were already spoken for. We continued to work with Don last year to keep his house dry with tarps, and were finally able to return to get the job done!
Malarkey Roofing Products partnered with us on this project, donating all of the composition shingles and underlayment needed!
34 fantastic volunteers donated 222 hours of labor for this 4-day project. We stripped the roof (all 3-layers), replaced it, replaced the roofing on the porch cover, repaired framing and interior drywall, and cleaned-up the mess. WHEW! GREAT JOB, CREW!
Also, thanks to our awesome project leaders:
Crew Chief - Darrell Kriechbaum
Site Hosts/Advocates - Isaac Federiuk, Bob Kanyer, Taft & Bobbie Mitchell, John Ely
A few weeks after the project, we received this note from Mr. Phillips:
To Darrell, members and volunteers:
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all members of Catalyst NW. The joy and gift means more than money can buy. You have given me the gift of encouragement and hope in a difficult time. I'm so grateful for your support. Fixing my roof, bathroom and my deck is a gift that I will forever cherish in my heart. I was deeply touched by your generosity in helping elderly people like me with less income. I can say that Catalyst NW is a God send to me, and I really appreciate all of your crew for the gift of a job well done. God bless all of you from the bottom of my heart.
