The Caring Closet, located at Tigard High School, helps disadvantaged families in the school district by providing clothes, shoes, school supplies, hygiene items, and emergency bedding. This wonderful organization, headed by Director Rose Money and served by dozens of hard working volunteers, has given aid to thousands of kids! In 2010, Catalyst Partnerships joined forces with the Tigard-Tualatin School District, the City of Tigard, Tigard Christian Church, Home Depot, a large pool of other corporate partners, and of course lots of volunteers, to build a 560 square-foot storage facility adjacent to their office. It was a great project, and truly helped the Closet to expand their impact.
This Summer, we returned to build a small addition to the building we constructed in 2010. It contains a workroom with laundry facilities and big sink, and an ADA accessible bathroom. This has been a dream of the Caring Closet for quite some time, and a real need! Now, Caring Closet volunteers & clients won't have to trudge in the mud for 200-feet to reach the nearest port-a-potty on rainy Oregon days...and donated clothing that requires laundering can be processed immediately, in house! We love the work that the Caring Closet is doing in the community, and we were priviledged to work with such fantastic & generous community partners on this awesome project:
Project Partners:
Although the addition is only about 130 square-feet, it was a tremendous effort for Catalyst. It took about 4-months to complete, from start to finish; in the midst of our busy Summer project season. All together, 85 volunteers donated 500 hours to work with Catalyst staff for this effort!
Thank you to everyone who helped this dream become reality!
