Riverbend Church Renovation
February 29, 2020, - Bend, OR
Riverbend Church is a vibrant new Church community in the heart of Bend, OR, which was planted by Westside - A Jesus Church (Beaverton) in 2016. Pastor Andrew Rothrock and his team are making a profound impact in the area, and were given a 60-year-old church building by a vintage congregation. They met there on Sunday mornings for some time, and later moved their services to a nearby public school that would accommodate more growth. Now they are transforming their beautiful old building - "The White Chapel" - into a central hub for their other operations and activities; featuring space for large midweek prayer meetings, baptisms, offices, conferences and community service initiatives. This building will serve to impact their surrounding community, and it needs a big renovation!
55 Men from both Churches – Riverbend and Westside – converged there for a massive work party on Saturday, Feb. 29, to begin the transformation of the interior spaces for the church. The men's ministry of Westside led the charge by bringing 45 guys over the mountain for a weekend retreat with a service component. Altogether, 450 labor-hours (hard labor!) was donated, for an estimated value of $27,000!
Although this was not an "official Catalyst Project" that benefits low-income neighbors, Catalyst supported the effort. We appreciate the vision that Riverbend has for meeting needs in their community, and look forward to building relationships for future project partnerships with both of these two wonderful Church communities. Expenses for this project were covered entirely by Riverbend and Westside Churches, as well as the men who volunteered.
