Ms. Garcia lives with her son in their small home in NE Portland, near Providence Hospital just off the 26 freeway. After college, her son contracted a kidney infection that was not properly diagnosed, resulting in heart surgery and strokes which left him with permanent disabilities. Ms. Garcia Is his advocate and caretaker. He has been through surgeries and therapies, and has re-entered the job force...he's an amazing young man! During this time, they won a grant from the iHeart Radio Christmas Gift which provided funds to remodel the bathroom so that it was suitable for him to use. Next, it was time to redo their kitchen in order to fix broken cabinets, get rid of flooring trip-hazards, and create a new room-design that he is able to function in. It was a fantastic project, thanks to 40 amazing volunteers and our generous project partners!
