Ms. Sarmiento is an 80 year-old recently-widowed woman. She cared for her sick husband for the last ten years of his life, including a significant period of dialysis. During this period he was unable to help with home maintenance. She now lives in their home of 52-years with significantly less income and few personal skills to maintain it. She had a number of high-cost repair items that she needed help with. The purpose of this project was to take care of the most pressing of these issues, so that Ms. Sarmiento can remain safely in her home.
This 3-day project saw over 60 volunteers, and included repairs to the siding, roof, and painting the exterior of the whole house. None of this would have been possible without 3 amazing volunteer leaders from Stone Creek Christian Church: Phyllis and Dennis Hoffman, who have been caring and advocating for Ms. Sarmiento for many years; and Crew Chief Merritt Beymer, who led the charge. Awesome job, crew!
